Engagement- Michael and Rebeka

OK, so this one was more than fun. It was a blast! Using this super fun couple’s love of music, photography, skating etc, we descended on downtown Gainesville and just went at it with some loose and candid photography. I had known Rebekah from her days at the Gainesville Sun but when I met her and Mike together I knew it was just the kind of engagement shoot that Marian and I really have fun with.

Enjoy!!

Engagement- Craig and Sara

These super friendly love birds wanted to get a taste of the “U” life in their engagement photos…..UM that is…..Hurricane style. So it was a Miami destination shoot which we were quite happy about. Speaking of hurricane, there was some gale force winds blowing at the 8th wonder of the world in Miami….Vizcaya. When you have a chance to shoot in paradise you don’t let a little wind get in the way. We captured some great portraits and headed over to “Da U” at dusk for a little stroll down memory lane at the law school. I especially enjoyed sneaking in the library, during finals studying, for some uber quiet smooches.

Engagement- Ben and Caroline

I think Micanopy might just be the coolest engagement background in town. If its good enough for Doc Hollywood than its good enough for us. Also, I think this couple might just be the coolest ever. Not sure I have ever laughed so much on an e-shoot ever. They have their relationship rooted in the Lord and they walk it out for all to see. We know them from church and Caroline is our daughter’s youth leader. So needless to say we are super fond of them. Really wanted to go the extra mile for them but it doesn’t really work that way. We go the distance on every shoot. No extra miles laying around!

Engagement- Matt and Tonya

Oh boy…I just love this couple!

There are some people that get it and are naturals. Matt and Tonya are that way. Naturals. We spent more time with this shoot than normal because we just kept getting so many great moments. That is reflected by the length of this blog post.

As always, our goal with engagement shoots is for the people that know and love them to say- “YES, you captured them” and I really feel like we achieved that on this.

Hope you agree.

Engagement- Connie and Michael

We love compatibility in our images as it really makes them personal and less stylized/cliched. Working with this couple was a dream that way. They both seemed as if they did not like having photos done (as most do) yet when we put them together they just came alive. Marian gets a great deal of credit for her ability to understand what makes people work but when it all comes together its awesome as a photographer. These images represent that. Yes we use props and yes we try to have fun the images but at the core is the compatibility of the couple and Connie and Michael definitely have that.

Engagement- Cathy and Carl

Our last engagement shoot for 2010 was one of our favorites indeed. This couple was fun, flexible and eager for exploration. We hit a few of our favorite places but also some new ones and as always, tried to avoid any cookie cutter approach. Their puppy, boom, was a blast and obviously photogenic and kudos to the folks for coming along to dog sit.

So glad they brought bubbles and the “Walter the Farting Dog” book. Priceless.

Engagement- Andrew and Catie

Wow, seems like forever since we did an engagement shoot. Insert Catie and Andrew- fun, lively, spontaneous etc. They also have lots of hobbies and that is what we always tie into. As photojournalists we strive to tell the story in a “ninja” sort of way. That is we let things happen and find unobtrusive ways to capture those moments. With an e-shoot we must defer from that style because it is a posed situation yet we still want to keep it real. Marian works hard to figure out what makes each couple ticks, mainly through their hobbies. This collection of images is a great example of that and highlights our philosophy of capturing the personality of each couple. Thank the Lord for great couples like this!

Engagement- Lenny and Alisha

The early bird gets the worm……….and the best pictures.

In order to beat the summer heat, we met this awesome couple for a sunrise engagement shot along Paynes Prairie and in downtown Micanopy. Amazing locations that we don’t always get to enjoy. We had such a blast and minus a few swarms of mosquitois, everything went perfect. They have a super-fun wedding planned for later this year and this was such a great first start.

Enjoy!

Engagement- Gardhy and Sandrie

The joy of this couple can be easily understood before you even scroll to the bottom of this post. Marian and I thoroughly enjoyed our time working with them and cannot wait to photograph the upcoming wedding. We chose the Thomas Center and Baughman Center in Gainesville for this shoot and prayed for mild weather for which we got (minus a few bugs). Such a great time.

Engagement- Robert and Lynn

OK, so I get the bad blogger of the month award but we have really been enjoying a little break between Spring and Fall seasons. An awesome exception to that came when Lynn and Robert asked us to do an engagement shoot last weekend at UF. Normally we shy away from summer eshoots because, well, its insanely hot. To get around that we met at sunrise and while it did not take long for the sun to go from bake to broil, we were having so much fun it really did not matter. It was amazing watching their personalities come to life almost immediately. As usual we stayed away from the cheesy pictures that often come out of shoots like this and really just let them be themselves. For us, that is the best way to turn a posed session into a legit documentary style assignment. This super cool couple was a prime example of that.

Enjoy!!

btw- I promise to blog some of the awesome charity work that Marian and I have been working on during our “break.”
